The awkward cases every trip has
Someone arrives two days late: the accommodation share can be prorated by nights. An activity only half the group joined: untick the rest. A child sharing a room: a weight of 0.5 settles it. One expense paid in two instalments by two people: both payments are recorded separately.
Why it changes the mood
Money tension on a trip can come less from the amounts themselves than from the fog: nobody knows where they stand, and whoever fronted the most eventually says so. Balances everyone can see, updated as you go, defuse the question before it is ever asked.
Frequently asked questions
How are foreign currency expenses handled?
A group has one main currency. When an expense is paid in another one, you enter both the original amount and the amount actually charged to the card — the latter is what counts in the balances, so your real rate and fees are respected.
What about activities only some people joined?
Untick the others when you add the expense. A skydive for three does not touch the balances of the five who stayed on the beach.
Does everything have to be entered on the spot?
It is more comfortable, but not required. Keep the receipts and enter them in the evening: what matters is that everything is in the group before the trip ends and memories fade.
How many transfers at the end?
Pivunio proposes a plan that keeps the number of payments low, at most one fewer than the number of travellers.
