Comparison
Pivunio vs Tricount
Both services cover the same basic need without charging for the essentials. The differences lie elsewhere: how precise the splits can be, offline use, insights, and how people join a group.

Splits: the real gap
A Pivunio expense can be divided into equal shares, exact amounts to the cent, percentages or weighted shares, and you tick the participants involved. That covers the common case where three people out of six share a taxi, or where a child counts as half a share. The official Tricount pages we consulted do not detail the split modes available, so we do not compare beyond that.
Currencies: two different approaches
Tricount advertises multi-currency with conversion. Pivunio sets one currency per group out of fifteen and, for an expense paid elsewhere, keeps the original amount next to the converted value you enter yourself. That is more manual, but the amount used in the accounts is exactly the one you decided, independent of any daily rate.
Who should choose what?
Tricount if you travel where coverage is patchy, if insights interest you, or if you are migrating a Splitwise history.
Pivunio if your expenses do not always involve everyone, if you want to adjust a share to the cent, and if participants should be able to join from a link without installing anything.
Frequently asked questions
Is Pivunio free like Tricount?
Pivunio is free during its beta with no artificial limits: creating a group, inviting people, adding expenses, computing balances and recording repayments are open to everyone. Tricount presents itself as 100% free.
Can Pivunio be used without a network?
No. Pivunio needs a connection, whereas Tricount documents an offline mode with later synchronisation.
Does Pivunio show insights?
Not today. You get expenses, balances, suggested repayments and the group history, but no charts and no category analysis.
