Tricount alternative: the cases where switching helps
Tricount presents itself as 100% free and covers the essentials of expense splitting. Looking for an alternative therefore only makes sense for specific reasons. Here they are, without inflating the differences.
Verification date — Information checked on August 23, 2026 on the official Splitwise and Tricount websites.
Reasons to switch that hold up
Splits that never land right. As soon as an expense concerns only part of the group, or one person takes half a share, the need is precision rather than extra features.
Working from a browser. Some groups prefer a web page shared by link over an app installed on every phone.
The opposite need: more tracking. Scanned receipts, charts and history search belong to the Splitwise Pro plan and do not exist in Pivunio today.
What each one brings
| Criterion | Pivunio | Tricount | Splitwise |
|---|---|---|---|

| Participants per expense | Chosen expense by expense, including a sub-group | Not verified | Not verified |
| Currencies | One currency per group (15 currencies); the original foreign amount is kept, with its converted value entered manually — no automatic rate | Multi-currency with conversion | 100+ currencies; currency conversion included in Pro |
| Offline | Not offered today: a connection is required | Offline mode with later synchronisation | Offline mode advertised |
| Insights and search | Not offered today: balances, history and repayments only | Insights and a built-in calculator | Charts and expense search in Pro |
| Pricing model | Free during the beta, with no artificial limits; no paid plan is sold today | Presented as 100% free | Free plan capped by expenses per day, Pro subscription for unlimited use (price varies by country, not quoted here) |
Tricount's split modes are not detailed on the official pages we consulted, so we mark them as not verified rather than assert them.
Who should choose what?
Stay on Tricount if offline mode matters (hiking, travelling without data), if the built-in insights are useful to you, or if you need to carry over a Splitwise history through their CSV importer.
Choose Pivunio if your expenses do not always involve everyone, if you want shares exact to the cent, and if joining a group should be a single link with no installation.
Choose Splitwise if you keep recurring accounts between the same people and the Pro features justify a subscription.
Frequently asked questions
Tricount is free, so why change?
Usually not for the price, but for the workflow: very precise per-expense splits, working in a browser without installing an app, or simply preferring a shorter interface.
Can a tricount be exported to another app?
We found no official export path to Pivunio or Splitwise, so treat that as not verified. The importer Tricount documents works the other way round, from a Splitwise CSV export.
Can two apps run side by side?
Yes, and it can be the fastest way to decide: leave the current group where it is and open the next one elsewhere.
